I have been trying out some cake recipes, mainly in preparation for Bun's 1st birthday. The thing about cake is that I can get a whole bunch of photos without worrying about my food getting cold. However, a nice photo does not mean the cake tastes good! (or good enough for me to write about!)
At this point, I have to thank a few friends and a kind neighbour for accepting my not-so-great creations. Otherwise, my fridge would be saddled with more cake than we can consume!
Therefore, sorry, I don't have a recipe to share yet, although hopefully I will soon, given that her birthday is coming up in a couple of days! Gulp.

Do you like my new, bright pink cake stand? It comes with a transparent dome cover too. I got the stand+cover for a steal (S$10)! Mighty pleased!

The mango & almond flakes cake looks really good and delicious!
What a nice cake stand at a great deal!
I realised I've not baked for a long time. What with the cooking and all, the last thing I want to do is to bake and wash more things!heh.
They don't look like failures to me! I love them!
And ha, I got the same cake stand at the same price too! They are left with only green ones now - i managed to get the last pink one! It's used for R's cafe though, haha.

The cake itself didn't taste that great too :( Too dense and egg-y. I know what you mean about washing up. For me it is also about taking out all of my equipment! My kitchen is small, so I have things kept in high (or low) cabinets and need to pull out loads of stuff to get everything I need =P But it can be rewarding, as you know! :)

Oh! How funny! When did you get yours? I got mine last week (or maybe the week before, can't rem now), and I was told I got the last pink one too! Hmmmm.... But we have good taste, huh? Haha
I got mine last Friday! I took the display set! From Cluny Court right? I'm not a fan of green, especially that green!
that mango cake looks delicious! i think you're being too hard on yourself. good luck finding the perfect recipe for Bun's birthday! Can't believe she's going to be 1 already!
the pink cake stand looks fabulous! may i know where you got it at?
as for the sponge cake, i suspect the dense-ness might be due to overfolding, but I'm sure you'll come up with something beautiful for bun by then!

Looks like we were both told we got the last (and display) set! hee hee! Yes, the last I saw they only had a bright green left.

The cake didn't taste that good though! Will try again. May fall back on a good ole chocolate cake if all else fails. haha

Oh, thanks for the tip! I bought the cake stand at a shop in Cluny Court - sorry I didn't quite take note of the name. It is on the 2nd floor, furthest away from the lifts. It sells mainly kids' furniture but had a shelf of kitchenware on clearance!
The mango cake looks good! I wished I can bake but never really picked it up. Prefer eating it though ha ;p

If it interests you enough, you can start by baking something easy! Try the chocolate cake recipe I posted under Kitchen Exploits! I used to have a baking phobia for years, but I am glad to have this new-found hobby as I have been able to make people happy with my bakes :)
