A finalist at the Singapore Blog Awards 2011

It has finally truly sunk in that A Dollop Of Me has been selected as one of the Top 10 Best Family Blogs at the Singapore Blog Awards 2011.

Before I say more about the awards however, I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to MamaJ of Mum in a Making for nominating this blog for the awards. She is a mother who exemplifies Christian living, a creative crafter and scrapbooker, and has awesome photography skills. I can't remember how or when we first got to know of each other's blogs, but it has been for several months now and I have often been inspired by her. When she first contacted me to share that she wanted to nominate this A Dollop Of Me, I had no idea what the Awards were about at all. Therefore, I am very humbled and still a little stunned that this blog has made it as one of the Top 10 finalists among other bigwigs in the Singapore blogging world.

Some of you know that I have been blogging for several years now. Early this year, I noticed that my blog hits were increasing, and feeling encouraged, I made the effort to improve my writing style and photography. I learnt some basic HTML to customise the look of the blog, and explored photo editing tools. I also re-positioned my blog's theme to “Woman, Wife, Mother” to reflect myself and my life in a more holistic manner.

This blog is my little (growing) project and happy, creative space that I hope many will come to enjoy.

I don’t know where the Awards will lead me to but I’m excited about the journey ahead!

If you can spare the time and would like to, please register and vote for me here.

Public voting counts for 30% of the final score (70% judges’ decision). Voters stand a chance to win prizes as well.

Here is the catch - you can actually vote multiple times, but only once a day! So do click when you are able to! You can also help spread the word by clicking on the social media buttons (as seen in the pic above) to share the link with your friends.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank every one of you who made this blogging journey possible through your readership, and for many of you - your friendship as well. Interactions with you all have no doubt inspired my life and my writing.

Congrats! You definitely deserve to be in the list! I've really enjoyed reading your blog. I'm new to blogosphere and definitely not someone IT savvy but I'm enjoying this blogging journey more and more. I hope to learn more from bloggers like you and Mama J. For a start, I hope to get a DSLR camera and improve on my photography skills. Any recommendations? :)

Thanks so much for your support, people! :) Much appreciated indeed!

Ruth:
I use a Canon EOS 550D. I don't think it really matters which brand but Canon and Nikon are popular. If you have family members who use either, you may want to get the same brand so you can share lenses! Save $ :) I also recommend that other than the lens the camera comes with, get a Prime lens (50mm) - that's really good for portraits! I take a lot of my photos using that. It lets in a lot of light so easier for photos to look nice. haha :)
