Ok I admit it!

I've started to waddle...

Quack quack!

Happy Ikea

It's Friday, and I feel chirpy despite the brainwork-filled week!

Had to pop by Ikea to pick up some stuff for work. I am really enjoying this shopping for work thing. Especially in a happy place like Ikea.

Couldn't resist grabbing these two little plushies for myself! 90 cents each :)

Office Induced Leaky Nose

I'm allergic to the office.

The place is cleaned every Saturday. I have found myself surviving from Mon - Wed/Thurs. Come Friday, my nose would leak uncontrollably when I am in the office.

It calms down when I walk out of the office and stay outside for 10-15 minutes. When I say outside, I mean out in the corridor, where it is still air-conditioned, and not in the open sun.

I had to work from home one Friday afternoon as I was expecting a delivery and installation of a ceiling fan for the baby's nursery. The nose was leaking the ENTIRE morning I was in the office. I was using up copious amounts of tissue, and had to keep walking out for some relief, to wash my hands and to spray on a hand sanitizer. The moment I left office for lunch and home however, the nose stopped leaking completely. It was like someone turned off the tap!

Something needs to be done, but I don't know if anyone knows what is best!

1st Babysitting Experience!

People around me know that while I love being with babies and kids, I have never actually taken care of one before.

I was chatting with a dear friend when she asked if Roboman and myself could spare a few hours babysitting their 2.5 month old. It was her wedding anniversary and she and hubby desperately needed some time out by themselves, and to relax by watching a movie.

My heart surged with excitement when she asked, but I was also understandably apprehensive, asking her if she was sure, seeing that I have zero experience. The sweet mum replied that everyone has to learn, and that I wouldn't do anything they as 1st time parents haven't done!

So the date was set and I turned up after work at their place.

She had already prepared a clear instruction sheet about what I had to do - what time the baby was expected to wake up, how and when to feed etc. Then she turned to me and asked: "Have you gone for your prenatal classes yet?" I sheepishly said, no, half expecting her to freak out. But the cool parents simply pulled out a stuffed toy, and proceeded to show me how to burp a baby! They also left me with a baby book tagged at the relevant pages.

I passed them our car keys and shooed them off for their date. I saw that 9pm was the expecting baby wake-up time, so I lounged in the living room reading from their very comprehensive library of parenting books.

The rest of the evening was filled with an unexpected early waking up of the baby, me panicking and calling the mum and getting confidence from her cool assuredness over the phone, trying to pacify the bub for over an hour through rocking, singing and patting, mistakenly thinking she was hungry and putting the bottle to her mouth, Roboman talking very loudly to her (as opposed to what I thought should be a soothing voice), she calming down when Roboman played a Baby lullaby CD, checking her head/hair when I noticed she kept grasping one side when she cried, and I embarrassingly forgetting that babies should be rocked up and down and not side to side (we BOTH read the same literature but it looks like Roboman has better memory!).

Finally, when the parents came back, the baby had already slept through her feed time as she was crying too much before. I was feeling kinda worried that we did something wrong =P Thankfully the parents seemed more amused at us, and assured us that everything was fine and normal, as she was colicky and does that sometimes. They were particularly amused when I told them about me checking her head/hair. Apparently the baby grasps her hair when she is frustrated. (Later I found out that another friend's baby does that too! How interesting).

I found myself thinking a lot about that sweet baby for the next few days. I'm grateful for the experience and for our friends trusting their baby with us. Even while they thanked us for our time, I felt thankful instead that I had gain so much just by actually getting the opportunity to take care of a baby (although I ended up not getting to feed, burp or change her).

This experience has also made me look forward even more to having my own little baby girl :)

Stretchmarks Prevention

My tummy is getting bigger and bigger.

Some days it feels like the skin and insides are stretching beyond what they can bear.

Because of this, I have been more diligent in applying the various stretchmark creams/oils that I have been gifted with. My friends are even more concerned than me! ;)

I enjoy rotating each of these so my skin gets a variety of goodness. The little jar of Belly Balm stays in the office for the occasional application when the feeling of skin tightness sets in.

Morning Boo Boo

Of all the cars in our carpark, I had to scrape a brand new white BMW convertible :( It is one of those cars kept in pristine conditions - always shiny and clean. As I turned out from my parking lot, I heard a grating sound and my heart dropped to my toes.

I stopped my car and ran to see the damage done. There was quite a bit of black markings. I didn't dare peel the black marks off in case I create more damage.

A left a post-it note with my name and number to ask the owner to call me. She did, and said some of the paint had come off :( She also told me what I already knew, that it is a NEW car.

I can only hope now that most of the cost can be covered through a warranty. But I can only wait and see.

Naming the Bub

We've been searching for a name for Bubbles.

I went to the parents' place and dug out a really old notebook that I kept as a child (of perhaps 10 or 11?). It has already turned a splotchy yellow.

It really beats me why on earth I decided to compile a book of names. Both Boys' as well as Girls' names. All in alphabetical order.

Still, it was fun to look through the names I meticulously wrote down as a child. Bad spelling and all :)

A Bubbly Surprise

I haven't had the time to photograph all the many generous gifts that Bubbles has been receiving from dear friends and family.

Today however, a friend said she would pop by the office to say Hi, but due to her having to settle her little one, and me having to attend a meeting that my department is hosting, we didn't get to meet.

When I got back to my desk however, I saw this huge, beautiful basket on my table. I squealed! I knew that it must have been from her. And I was right! The basket is filled with pretty baby girl's clothes, 2 little sippy cups and a Baby Art kit! I'm now smiling all day eyeing this lovely treasure chest next to me, and feeling the warmth of the generous thoughts that went into preparing this gift.

Thank you dear, Moo!

Doosh Doosh Doosh

I have been running on low battery.

4am is the usual wake-up call every night now. Bubbles is awake then, and wants to play.

I lie on my right, trying to get back to sleep. Doosh Doosh Doosh, she kicks me, now with much more force and strength than before.

Ok, I say, Mummy will lie on my left instead.

I turn to position myself on my left side.

I then distinctively feel her turn around in my tummy in a couple of bubbly, wave-like movements.

Then a few moments later, Doosh Doosh Doosh kicks are felt on my left!

Mumble Fumble

I am getting a real spell of pregnancy absent-mindedness!

It started about 3 weeks ago, and I am fast accumulating a list of silly things I have done. It is kind of frustrating, and I feel a bit like a ditzy Polly Pocket.

Among other things, I have left car keys in the ignition, and with the car unlocked, gone off for dinner. I have also double-booked myself for appointments, and turned up for a briefing in the afternoon when it was supposed to be in the morning.

What really takes the cake though, was what I did just two days ago. I was in the midst of drafting an email to someone, and halfway through, my brain kind of floated off somewhere, and I somehow thought I was emailing another person. So I basically sent out an email that was half written to Person A, and the other half meant for Person B! As if that was not bad enough, when I discovered my mistake, I frantically drafted another email to Person A to ask that she ignores the previous mail. I clicked "Send", and then realised that I sent the 2nd email to myself!! Ack!

I guess I just have to be more patient with myself from now on.

It is annoying though! I'm used to be able to handle 10 things at once and to enjoy the buzz of it all. Now blank spaces just appear in my brain out of nowhere and I have to pause and rethink what I am doing. I don't like this at all!
